Offshore QA Testing Services: What Works, What to Watch

Offshore QA testing means a provider in another country tests your software, usually at a lower hourly rate than hiring locally. It works well when the tests live in your repository and run in your CI, the provider manages its own testers, and you agree the working-hour overlap in advance. It goes wrong when you buy hours instead of a managed result.

This guide is written for teams weighing an offshore testing partner. RAITHub is a software and QA studio in Dhaka, Bangladesh (UTC+6), so it has an interest in the offshore side; every market figure below is linked so you can check it, and RAITHub delivers in English only, with no local office anywhere.

What is offshore QA testing, and how is it different from nearshore?

Offshore testing places the testers in a distant country and time zone; nearshore places them in a nearby one. Bangladesh is offshore to buyers in the US, the UK, Europe, the Gulf and Australia: it is not nearshore to any of them, and no honest vendor should call it that. The trade-off is simple. Offshore buys the widest cost gap and the least live overlap; nearshore buys more overlap at a higher rate. For the wider hiring choice, see nearshore Poland vs offshore Bangladesh.

How big is the cost gap on offshore QA?

Large, and it is mostly the rate, not the hours. One 2026 QA outsourcing guide puts manual testing at $8 to $55 an hour in India and Southeast Asia, $25 to $110 in Eastern Europe and $80 to $150 or more in North America, with automation running 20 to 50% higher in every region (QA Madness 2026 rates).

RegionManual QA, per hourAutomation QA, per hour
India and Southeast Asia (offshore)$8 to $55$12 to $75
Latin America$20 to $95$30 to $130
Eastern Europe$25 to $110$35 to $150
Western Europe$60 to $160$85 to $210
North America$80 to $150+$110 to $200+

Source: QA Madness. Freelance marketplaces sit lower still: Upwork lists a median of $35 an hour for QA engineers (Upwork QA engineer rates) and $15 for software QA testers (Upwork QA tester rates). For context on what the same role costs onshore, the US median wage for software quality assurance analysts and testers was $104,300 in May 2025 (US Bureau of Labor Statistics), before benefits, tools and devices. The gap is real, but a cheap rate times more hours, or more rework, is not a saving. Compare fixed quotes with the scope and deliverables visible, not rates alone.

How much working-hour overlap do you actually get offshore?

This is the number most offshore decisions turn on, and it is easy to check. Dhaka runs on UTC+6 with no daylight saving. Assuming both sides work a 9:00 to 18:00 day, the overlap with a Dhaka team is:

Your regionShared working hours with Dhaka
Dubai, UAE7 hours, all year
Singapore and Kuala Lumpur7 hours, all year
Riyadh and Doha6 hours, all year
UK3 hours in winter, 4 in summer
Central Europe (Berlin, Paris, Amsterdam)4 hours in winter, 5 in summer
Sydney and Melbourne5 hours (AEST), 4 (AEDT)
US East (New York, Toronto)No daytime overlap; a 2-hour evening window instead

For the Americas, RAITHub offers a daily 2-hour evening overlap: Dhaka 19:00 to 21:00 lines up with New York and Toronto at 08:00 to 10:00 in winter and 09:00 to 11:00 in summer. Everything outside the shared window runs asynchronously, with a written daily handoff: what was tested, what failed, what is blocked, and what is next. That written record is what makes offshore testing work across a big time gap. Country-by-country detail is in the guides for the US, the UK, Australia, Canada, Dubai and the GCC and Singapore.

Where should offshore tests live?

In your repository, running in your CI. This is the single rule that separates a QA service you keep from hours you rent. If automated tests sit on the vendor's machines, you lose them the day the contract ends, and you cannot prove a release was tested. The pattern that keeps offshore testing yours:

  • Tests in your repo. Playwright or similar end-to-end tests, API tests and unit tests are committed to your codebase, reviewed like any other code.
  • Gated in your CI. A failing test blocks the merge, so a regression cannot reach users. See QA gates for offshore teams.
  • Bugs in your tracker. Every defect is filed in your Jira or Linear with steps to reproduce and evidence, not in the vendor's private list.
  • One source of truth for readiness. One tracker, one test suite, one person who decides a release is ready.

The test pyramid for SaaS shows how those layers fit together, and fixing flaky end-to-end tests covers the suite problems an offshore team inherits most often.

What are the risks of offshore QA, and how do you reduce them?

RiskWhat it looks likeHow to reduce it
Time-zone dragA question on Monday answered on TuesdayAgree the overlap window and a daily written handoff up front
Tests you do not ownSuite lives on the vendor's laptopsTests in your repo, gated in your CI, from day one
Buying hours, not resultsInvoices for time, no measurable outcomeBuy a managed service judged on whether releases get safer
Data exposureTesters read real customer dataTest against synthetic data; sign a DPA; keep production access exceptional
Shallow product knowledgeKnowledge leaves with each testerWritten test plans the provider maintains, not tribal memory
Over-claimed scope"Security testing" sold as a certified pentestGet the limits in writing before you sign

On data: RAITHub makes no SOC 2, ISO 27001 or data-protection "compliance" claim, and no vendor can take on your company's legal obligations. What a responsible offshore partner does is sign data processing agreements and standard contractual clauses, follow your controls, and design testing so real personal data does not need to leave your environment. Any cross-border data rule is general information; confirm your position with a qualified adviser.

Why RAITHub for offshore QA testing?

  • A managed service, not seats. RAITHub manages its own testers and answers for the result. It does not offer staff augmentation: testers are never placed under your management.
  • Specialist breadth from one provider. Manual and exploratory testing with UAT support, mobile testing on real iOS and Android devices and device clouds, web application security testing against OWASP guidance, WCAG 2.2 accessibility audits, and automation, API and performance testing.
  • Tests you keep. Automated tests and CI configuration go in your repository, with IP assigned to you and an NDA as standard.
  • Counted suites as proof. PropDesk runs 1,024 automated tests and Sundor Skin runs 530+. TheSkinProof, the founder's own venture rather than a client, runs 750+. There is no separate QA case study yet; these are the measured test counts.

When offshore QA is the wrong answer

  • When you need an accredited CREST- or PCI-recognised penetration test report. RAITHub does application-level security testing against OWASP guidance, not certified pentests.
  • When you need a legal accessibility certificate (ADA, EAA, Section 508). A WCAG 2.2 audit reports what fails and how to fix it; it does not certify legal compliance. That is general information; confirm with your adviser.
  • When you want to manage the testers yourself. That is staff augmentation, which RAITHub does not offer.
  • When live, same-time collaboration for most of your working day is essential and the overlap above is too thin.

How RAITHub would test this

  • Scope: the journeys and roles that matter, the platforms and devices, and the test types you need now versus later, across manual and exploratory, mobile, security, accessibility and automation, API and performance testing.
  • Model: a monthly QA plan, a fixed-price one-off audit, or a dedicated team RAITHub manages and bills monthly.
  • Delivery: bugs in your tracker with steps and evidence, automated tests in your repository gated in CI, written daily handoffs, and a regular report.
  • Limits in writing: security testing is application-level, not a certified pentest; accessibility audits do not certify legal compliance.

Next step: a free 15-minute technical audit, then a written fixed quote. For the full service, see QA as a service. Ready to talk? Ask for a QA plan or dedicated team quote.

Frequently asked questions

What is offshore QA testing?

It is software testing done by a provider in a distant country and time zone, usually at a lower hourly rate than hiring locally. It works best as a managed service where the automated tests live in your repository and run in your CI, so you keep them.

Is Bangladesh offshore or nearshore?

Offshore to the US, UK, Europe, the Gulf and Australia. No vendor in Bangladesh should call itself nearshore to those markets. Nearshore means a nearby time zone, such as Poland for Western Europe or Latin America for the US.

How much cheaper is offshore QA?

On 2026 rates, manual testing runs $8 to $55 an hour in India and Southeast Asia against $80 to $150 or more in North America. The real saving depends on how many hours the vendor needs and how much rework follows, so compare fixed quotes, not rates.

Will I lose the tests when the contract ends?

Not if they live in your repository and run in your CI from day one. Insist on that in writing. Tests kept on a vendor's machines disappear when the engagement does, and so does your proof that releases were tested.

How do you manage QA across a large time difference?

With an agreed overlap window for live work and a written daily handoff for the rest: what was tested, what failed, what is blocked and what is next. The written record, not the shared hours alone, is what keeps progress moving.

Does RAITHub offer staff augmentation for offshore QA?

No. RAITHub offers QA as a managed service: a monthly plan, a one-off audit or a dedicated team it manages. Testers are never placed under a client's day-to-day management.
