Founder & Lead Engineer, RAITHub
A custom web app MVP in Switzerland costs roughly CHF 55,000 to CHF 145,000 at Swiss freelance rates, or about CHF 14,000 to CHF 44,000 from an offshore agency in Bangladesh. Both ranges multiply 660 to 1,080 illustrative build hours by published hourly bands at about CHF 0.835 per US$1. Zurich shares 4 working hours with Dhaka in winter and 5 in summer.
This guide is for Swiss founders, operations leads and SME owners pricing a first custom product. It splits the number into line items you can challenge, shows where each rate comes from, and says plainly when an agency, local or offshore, is the wrong answer. RAITHub is a software studio in Dhaka, so we have an interest in the offshore side of the comparison. Every outside figure is linked so you can check it yourself.
How much does it cost to build an app in Switzerland?
For a first release of a web application, with sign-in, a few user roles, an admin area, payments and an automated test suite, the ranges above are a fair starting point. Swiss rates are among the highest in Europe, but the biggest cost driver is still scope: how many screens, roles and integrations the first release really needs, and how much of the work is rework.
A word on "app". Many buyers say app and mean something that lives on a phone. A web app, or a progressive web app (PWA), runs in the phone browser and on desktop from one codebase, and can be added to the home screen. Native iOS and Android apps need separate builds, app store reviews and more testing, and they push the budget up. RAITHub builds web applications and PWAs only; it does not build native mobile apps. If you need an App Store listing on day one, budget for a mobile specialist.
What do developers charge per hour in Switzerland, and offshore?
Arc's 2026 freelance rate guide lists US$100 to US$160 an hour for Switzerland and US$110 to US$165 for Zurich, against US$22 to US$55 for South Asia (Arc freelance developer rates 2026). Clutch publishes no Swiss band; it gives US$25 to US$49 an hour as the most common agency band worldwide (Clutch software development pricing guide, updated September 2026).
For employment costs, the Federal Statistical Office publishes Swiss wage levels by industry through its Swiss Earnings Structure Survey (FSO wages, income and labour costs). Use it to price an in-house hire in your canton and industry; this guide does not quote a single wage figure because the FSO tables vary widely by sector, region and role.
To convert, this guide uses about CHF 0.835 per US$1, the cross rate implied by the European Central Bank's reference rates for 30 September 2026: US$1.1355 and CHF 0.9478 per €1 (ECB euro reference rates). Exchange rates move; check the day's rate before you compare quotes.
| Who does the work | Published rate (USD) | In CHF (at about CHF 0.835 per US$1) | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Freelance developer, Zurich | US$110–165/hr | CHF 92–138/hr | Arc 2026 |
| Freelance developer, Switzerland (country) | US$100–160/hr | CHF 83–134/hr | Arc 2026 |
| Freelance developer, South Asia | US$22–55/hr | CHF 18–46/hr | Arc 2026 |
| Agency, most common band worldwide | US$25–49/hr | CHF 21–41/hr | Clutch pricing guide |
These are market figures checked on 1 October 2026, not RAITHub prices. RAITHub publishes no hourly rate. Note the mismatch: the Swiss figure is a freelance rate for one person, not an agency rate. A Swiss agency adds project management, QA and margin on top, so treat the local range in this guide as a floor, not a ceiling. Rates also say nothing about how many hours a vendor needs, which is why the next table works in hours first. For how Bangladesh compares with other offshore options, see what developers in Bangladesh cost and Poland vs Bangladesh for European teams.
What are the line items in an app development quote?
A credible quote splits into discovery, design, frontend, backend, payments, access control, QA, infrastructure and project management. The hours below are illustrative assumptions for a typical first release, such as a booking product, a customer portal or a B2B ordering tool. They are not benchmarks and not a quote. Multiplying them by the Swiss country freelance band (CHF 83 to CHF 134) and the common agency band (CHF 21 to CHF 41) gives the ranges in the opening paragraph.
| Line item | Illustrative hours | At Swiss freelance rates (CHF 83–134/hr) | At offshore agency rates (CHF 21–41/hr) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Discovery and written spec | 40–60 | CHF 3,320–8,040 | CHF 840–2,460 |
| UX and UI design | 60–100 | CHF 4,980–13,400 | CHF 1,260–4,100 |
| Frontend (screens, forms, responsive layout, languages) | 160–240 | CHF 13,280–32,160 | CHF 3,360–9,840 |
| Backend, API and database | 160–240 | CHF 13,280–32,160 | CHF 3,360–9,840 |
| Payments (cards plus TWINT) | 40–80 | CHF 3,320–10,720 | CHF 840–3,280 |
| Sign-in, roles and admin area | 40–80 | CHF 3,320–10,720 | CHF 840–3,280 |
| QA and automated tests | 80–140 | CHF 6,640–18,760 | CHF 1,680–5,740 |
| Hosting, CI and deployment | 20–40 | CHF 1,660–5,360 | CHF 420–1,640 |
| Project management and demos | 60–100 | CHF 4,980–13,400 | CHF 1,260–4,100 |
| Total | 660–1,080 | CHF 54,780–144,720 | CHF 13,860–44,280 |
Use the table to question a quote, not to write one. If a quote has no QA line, testing is either hidden in the other lines or missing. If discovery is zero, the vendor is pricing a spec nobody has written yet. At the Zurich band the local total rises to roughly CHF 61,000 to CHF 149,000. For your own scope, the MVP cost estimator gives a range in a few minutes, and what a US$30k MVP budget buys shows what gets cut when the budget is fixed. A very low quote deserves the same scrutiny as a high one; the hidden cost of cheap offshore development lists what usually goes missing.
Is it cheaper to hire an in-house developer in Switzerland?
Rarely for a first release. A single hire brings a Swiss salary, social insurance contributions, recruitment time and equipment, and it still leaves you with one person. The line items above need design, frontend, backend, testing and deployment skills. One engineer rarely brings all of them, and nobody reviews their code.
An in-house team makes sense once the product has paying users and a roadmap measured in years. For the first release, a fixed-scope project usually costs less in total and ends with something you can show investors or customers. Many teams do both: an outside build for version one, then an in-house hire who inherits a tested codebase and written documentation.
How do TWINT and cards change the scope?
Swiss customers expect TWINT alongside cards, and each payment method is a separate integration to scope, test and reconcile. This is engineering guidance. RAITHub has shipped Stripe rent collection in PropDesk, and bKash, Nagad, SSLCommerz and cash on delivery in TheSkinProof, which is the founder's own venture rather than a client project. It has not shipped TWINT or any other Swiss payment method.
- Cards through Stripe. Stripe's Swiss pricing page lists 2.9% + CHF 0.30 for Swiss cards and 3.25% + CHF 0.30 for international cards, plus 2% where currency conversion is needed (Stripe Switzerland pricing, checked 1 October 2026). On a CHF 200 order, a Swiss card costs CHF 6.10 at that rate.
- TWINT through Stripe. Stripe's docs describe two flows: on a phone the customer is redirected to the TWINT app to approve the payment; on a desktop they scan a QR code shown on your site. Payments are in CHF, capped at CHF 5,000 each, and refunds are allowed up to 180 days (Stripe TWINT docs). The TWINT fee is not on Stripe's main pricing page, so confirm it for your account.
- TWINT onboarding. The same docs list merchant requirements before TWINT is enabled: a live website with your company name and legal form, full address and contact details in the legal notice or terms, and prices shown in CHF by checkout at the latest. Put those pages in the scope, or activation waits.
Two design points follow. Because the payment is approved outside your page, the order status has to wait for the confirmation webhook, not the redirect back. And the CHF 5,000 cap means a high-value B2B invoice needs a fallback, such as a card or bank transfer. Testing payments and webhooks covers the failure cases every method needs.
What does English-only delivery mean for a Swiss product?
RAITHub works in English only: specs, calls, written handoffs and documentation. Many Swiss products still need German, French or Italian interfaces. The app can be built to hold translated text per language and to format numbers the Swiss way, but the translated copy and its review have to come from your side or a translator. Budget for that as its own line. Swiss number formatting uses an apostrophe for thousands, which the browser handles if the code asks for the right locale:
const price = new Intl.NumberFormat('de-CH', {
style: 'currency',
currency: 'CHF',
}).format(1234.5)
// "CHF 1’234.50"
What does the revFADP mean for an offshore build?
Switzerland's revised Federal Act on Data Protection (revFADP, also called the nFADP) has applied since 1 September 2023 (Federal Act on Data Protection, SR 235.1, on Fedlex). Its regulator is the Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner, the FDPIC. Under the Act, personal data may go abroad freely to countries the Federal Council has listed as providing adequate protection, a list kept in an annex to the Data Protection Ordinance. For other countries, the transfer needs safeguards such as standard data protection clauses. Check the current list on Fedlex before you rely on it; as far as we are aware, Bangladesh is not on it, so a contract-based route is the usual path for data that reaches a Dhaka team.
For a cost estimate, the practical question is whether the offshore team needs production personal data at all. Often it does not. Host production in Switzerland, for example in the AWS Europe (Zurich) region, eu-central-2 (AWS Regions), and let the team build and test against synthetic data. That costs a few extra hours of seed scripts and access controls, not a separate project. Where data does move, RAITHub signs DPAs and SCCs and follows your controls. The contract side works much like the EU's, which outsourcing software development for European startups explains. A separate guide will cover Swiss transfers in full. This is general information, not legal advice; confirm with your adviser and the FDPIC.
What does an app cost to run after launch?
Plan for hosting, a database, email delivery, error monitoring, payment fees and a maintenance budget for security updates and small changes. For an early product these usually come to hundreds of francs a month, not thousands, but payment fees scale with revenue. What a SaaS costs to run each month breaks the infrastructure side down line by line.
If you pay a vendor abroad, ask your fiduciary or accountant how Swiss VAT applies to the imported service for your business. This is general information, not tax advice; confirm the current rule with your adviser and the Federal Tax Administration (ESTV).
How many working hours does a Swiss team share with Dhaka?
Switzerland runs on UTC+1 in winter and UTC+2 in summer; Dhaka stays on UTC+6 all year. With both sides on a 9:00 to 18:00 day, Zurich shares 4 working hours with Dhaka in winter (09:00 to 13:00 Zurich time) and 5 in summer (09:00 to 14:00).
| Zurich time, summer (UTC+2) | Dhaka time (UTC+6) | What typically happens |
|---|---|---|
| 09:00–10:00 | 13:00–14:00 | You read the written handoff and reply with decisions; stand-up. |
| 10:00–14:00 | 14:00–18:00 | Live collaboration: reviews, demos, questions answered. |
| 14:00–18:00 | after hours | You test and comment; the team picks it up next morning. |
A Swiss morning is the Dhaka afternoon, so questions raised before lunch are usually answered the same day. Anything raised later lands in the next morning's handoff. RAITHub agrees the working week with each client and sends written daily handoffs, so progress does not depend on the overlap alone.
Should a Swiss startup pay a fixed price or by the hour?
A fixed price once the scope is written down, hourly while it is still being discovered. A fixed price moves the overrun risk to the vendor, which is why discovery comes first and the quote lists its assumptions. Fixed price vs time and materials covers the trade-off, and how long an MVP takes gives realistic timelines to check a quote against.
Why RAITHub for this
- Fixed written quotes you can check. A free 15-minute technical audit, then a fixed-scope quote with its assumptions listed, so each line item above can be questioned. See pricing and engagement models.
- Access control built in from the start. Sundor Skin, a B2B wholesale platform RAITHub built, runs 146 PostgreSQL tables with row-level security, 88 permission codes and 12 staff roles. That matters when you want to limit who sees personal data.
- QA is a line, not an afterthought. Every build ships with an automated test suite gated in CI. PropDesk, the property management platform RAITHub built, runs 1,024 automated tests and collects rent through Stripe.
- Proof you can read before a call. BlockEstate, a multi-tenant listing and inquiry platform, reached its MVP in 6 weeks. See the work.
- You own it. Full IP assignment and a standard NDA. First releases run under MVP development.
When you don't need us
- You need a native iOS or Android app. RAITHub builds web apps and PWAs, not native mobile apps.
- You want the project run in German, French or Italian. RAITHub delivers in English only.
- You need TWINT live next month with a vendor who has shipped it before. RAITHub has not shipped TWINT; a team that has will be faster.
- Your data must never leave Switzerland, even for development. If your policy rules out any offshore access, hire locally.
- An off-the-shelf tool does 80% of the job. A subscription you can cancel beats a build you must maintain.
- You want a developer placed in your team, someone on site, or a vendor certified to SOC 2 or ISO 27001. RAITHub offers no staff augmentation, has no office in Switzerland and holds neither certification.

Frequently asked questions
How much does app development cost in Switzerland?
For a first release of a custom web app, roughly CHF 55,000 to CHF 145,000 at Swiss freelance rates and about CHF 14,000 to CHF 44,000 from an offshore agency in Bangladesh. These ranges multiply 660 to 1,080 illustrative build hours by published hourly bands. A Swiss agency will usually quote above the local range, and native mobile apps cost more.
What is the hourly rate for developers in Switzerland?
Arc's 2026 guide lists US$100 to US$160 an hour for freelance developers in Switzerland, about CHF 83 to CHF 134, and US$110 to US$165 in Zurich. Clutch does not publish a separate Swiss band.
What is the time difference between Zurich and Dhaka?
Dhaka is 5 hours ahead of Zurich in winter and 4 hours ahead in summer. With both teams on a 9:00 to 18:00 day, they share 4 working hours in winter and 5 in summer, starting at 09:00 Zurich time.
Can a Swiss company send personal data to a developer in Bangladesh?
Under the revised FADP, transfers to countries outside the Federal Council's adequacy list need safeguards such as standard data protection clauses. Many projects avoid the question by keeping production data in Switzerland and developing against synthetic data. This is general information; confirm with your adviser and the FDPIC.
Does RAITHub integrate TWINT?
Not yet. RAITHub has shipped Stripe rent collection in PropDesk and bKash, Nagad and SSLCommerz in TheSkinProof, the founder's own venture. It has not shipped TWINT, and would scope it as a separate line item with its own webhook and refund tests.
Does RAITHub build mobile apps?
No. RAITHub builds web applications and PWAs that work in phone and desktop browsers from one codebase. If you need native iOS or Android apps in the App Store, hire a mobile specialist for that part.
