In 2026, one mid-level developer in Bangladesh costs roughly $1,300 to $2,400 a month as a direct hire through an employer of record, $2,900 to $6,400 as a full-time freelancer, and $3,200 to $7,800 through an agency. These are market figures from the sources below, converted at 123 taka to the US dollar. RAITHub publishes no rates.

This guide is only about Bangladesh, and only about the three ways to pay for a developer's time. For a comparison of offshore regions, read Bangladesh vs India vs Vietnam. For the case for Bangladesh itself, talent, English and time zones, read how to choose a software company in Bangladesh. Here the focus is numbers you can budget with.

Which data and exchange rate does this guide use?

Every figure below is published market data from a named source, checked on 28 September 2026. Taka figures are converted at 123 BDT to 1 USD: Wise reported USD/BDT trading between 122.7 and 123.275 in the week to 24 September 2026 (Wise USD to BDT history). Dollar figures are rounded. Salary surveys in Bangladesh rely on small, self-reported samples, so treat every band as a range, not a price.

What do software developers earn in Bangladesh by seniority?

A local mid-level developer (2 to 5 years) earns roughly BDT 30,000 to 120,000 a month in base salary, about $240 to $980, according to a 2026 salary guide. Senior developers earn about BDT 80,000 to 250,000, about $650 to $2,030.

LevelMonthly base salary (BDT)Monthly base salary (USD at 123)
Junior (0 to 2 years)15,000 to 60,000$120 to $490
Mid-level (2 to 5 years)30,000 to 120,000$240 to $980
Senior (5 to 8 years)80,000 to 250,000$650 to $2,030
Lead (8+ years)150,000 to 400,000$1,220 to $3,250

Source: BD Tech Jobs software engineer salary guide, published 23 January 2026. The guide notes these are base salaries and that festival bonuses (typically two a year), provident fund, health insurance and performance bonuses can add 15 to 30% to total compensation.

Other sources agree on the shape but not the level, because they sample different employers:

  • Levels.fyi puts the median total compensation for software engineers in Dhaka at BDT 1,023,244 a year, about $8,300 or $690 a month, from 93 submissions; the 75th percentile is BDT 1.68 million. For senior engineers the median is BDT 2,408,404, about $19,600 a year, from 19 submissions (Levels.fyi Dhaka software engineer, updated 28 September 2026). Its sample leans towards established companies.
  • Payscale reports an average base salary of BDT 353,749 a year, about $2,900, from 132 profiles (Payscale Bangladesh software engineer, updated 14 January 2026). That sample includes many early-career roles.

Why do foreign employers pay above local salaries?

Because experienced Bangladeshi developers can already work remotely for foreign companies, and that remote market, not the local one, sets their expectations. Arc, a remote hiring platform, reports that remote software developers in Bangladesh expect an average of $41,465 a year in 2026, and senior developers $69,548, based on self-reported data from its vetted network (Arc remote developer salaries in Bangladesh).

That is several times the local medians above. In practice, a foreign company hiring directly lands somewhere between the two: above local pay to attract people with remote-work experience and strong English, below the remote-platform figures for less experienced hires. Budget for the upper end of the local band as your floor.

What do freelance developers in Bangladesh charge?

Freelance developers in Bangladesh typically charge $18 to $40 an hour, according to Arc's 2026 freelance rate guide, which puts South Asia overall at $22 to $55 (Arc freelance developer rates, May 2026). At a full-time 160 hours a month, that is $2,880 to $6,400.

The hourly rate buys hours, not outcomes. A freelancer usually brings no project manager, no separate QA, and no cover when they are ill or take another client. Platform fees, where they apply, sit on top. Freelancers are a strong option for a well-defined task you can specify and review yourself; they are a riskier one for a product that needs continuity.

What do software agencies in Bangladesh charge?

Most highly reviewed software companies in Clutch's Bangladesh directory list an average hourly rate of under $25 or $25 to $49, with a few above $50 (Clutch Bangladesh software developers, checked 28 September 2026). At 160 hours a month and $20 to $49 an hour, one developer's time costs $3,200 to $7,840.

For context, Clutch's global pricing guide says most software development companies on its platform charge $25 to $49 an hour, and the average monthly cost of reviewed projects is about $10,209 (Clutch software development pricing guide). Agency rates are higher than salaries because they include what a salary does not: project management, QA, code review, replacement cover, office, equipment and the company's margin.

What are the hidden costs of hiring a developer in Bangladesh directly?

The salary is the smallest part of the risk. A foreign company cannot simply put a Bangladeshi developer on its payroll; it needs a legal employer in Bangladesh, and then it carries the costs a salary line hides.

  • A legal employer. Either you set up a local entity, which means company registration with the Registrar of Joint Stock Companies and Firms, investment registration with BIDA, local accounting, payroll and tax filings, or you use an employer of record (EOR) that employs the person for you. For one or two hires, an EOR is usually simpler.
  • EOR fees. Deel lists its EOR at $599 per employee per month (Deel pricing) and Remote at $699 (Remote pricing). A 2026 Bangladesh EOR guide says most providers charge $300 to $500 (HiveDesk EOR Bangladesh guide).
  • Statutory and customary costs. The same guide puts statutory employer costs, such as provident fund at 7 to 8% of basic salary and gratuity accrual, at about 10 to 15% on top of salary. Festival bonuses and other benefits take total compensation 15 to 30% above base.
  • Equipment and tools. A laptop, licences and a reliable connection; this guide assumes $50 to $100 a month, amortised.
  • Retention. Replacing a developer who leaves means recruiting, onboarding and lost context. We found no reliable published attrition rate for Bangladesh's software sector, so this guide does not quote one; budget for the possibility anyway.
  • Management time. A direct hire needs someone on your side to set priorities, review code and test what ships. If that person is you, the cost is your hours, and it is the line most budgets forget.

How do salary, freelancer and agency compare for one mid-level developer?

For one mid-level developer, a direct hire through an EOR has the lowest monthly cash cost, but you supply the management, QA and continuity that an agency rate includes. The line items for the direct hire come first.

Direct hire via EOR: line itemMonthly cost (USD)Basis
Base salary, BDT 100,000 to 150,000$810 to $1,220Upper local mid-level band, to compete with remote work

If you recruit from the remote-work market at Arc's average of about $3,455 a month, the same calculation gives roughly $4,300 to $5,300.

Read the monthly costs as cash, not total cost. A direct hire at $1,800 who needs ten hours a week of a founder's attention can cost more in practice than an agency at $4,000 that needs two. Hourly rates also say nothing about how many of those hours go into rework, which the guide on the hidden cost of cheap offshore development works through with an example.

Which option should you choose?

Choose by what you are buying: a person, a task or an outcome.

  • A person on your team for years: direct hire through an EOR, or your own entity once you have several people. You gain control and the lowest cash cost; you take on management, QA and retention.
  • A task you can specify and check: a freelancer. Pay per milestone, keep the repository in your name, and review every change.
  • A product or a fixed result: an agency, on a fixed scope or with a dedicated team. The comparison of dedicated team and fixed-price models helps you pick between those two.

Before you shortlist an agency, the vetting checklist in how to choose a software company in Bangladesh gives you the questions to ask.

Where does RAITHub fit, and when is it the wrong choice?

RAITHub is a founder-led software studio in Dhaka, founded in 2024 by Rupak Amin, that delivers fixed-scope projects and dedicated monthly teams for clients worldwide. It sells outcomes, not hours of a person you manage.

If you want a developer on your own team, RAITHub is not the route. RAITHub does not offer staff augmentation. For that, a direct hire through an employer of record, or your own entity, is the right choice, and the figures above are your budget.

RAITHub fits when you want a defined result with the QA and review built in: an MVP or SaaS product, a backend or API, a QA and reliability setup, or a rescue of an existing codebase. Every engagement includes a real test suite gated in CI, founder-reviewed architecture, an NDA, and full IP ownership for you. RAITHub publishes no hourly rates; you get a written estimate with its assumptions after a free 15-minute technical audit. It is not SOC 2 or ISO certified, and all delivery is in English. The engagement models are explained on the pricing page.
