How to Choose a Software Company in Bangladesh: A Vetting Checklist

To choose a software company in Bangladesh, score every shortlisted firm on seven weighted criteria: verified reviews, case studies with numbers, who actually writes the code, the QA process, IP and NDA terms, time-zone overlap, and the contract model. Treat red flags as a veto. Then verify the claims with review platforms, a code sample and a small paid trial task. This checklist ranks nobody, RAITHub included.

This is the Bangladesh-specific version of the question. The general method for any country is in how to choose a software development company. If you want a map of who is who, RAITHub's guide to software companies in Bangladesh profiles established firms and specialists, with a disclosure that RAITHub wrote it and appears on it. This post gives you the tools to judge any firm on that list, or any other, on evidence.

Why can't you trust most "top software companies in Bangladesh" lists?

Because most of them are written by a software company that puts itself in first place. Search for "software company in Bangladesh" and many of the pages that rank are agency blog posts titled "Top 10" or "Top 20", with the author's own firm at the top. That is marketing, not research, and it tells you nothing about which firm fits your project.

A self-ranked list is not automatically wrong, but it has no method you can check. Ask three things of any list: who wrote it, what criteria put each firm where it is, and whether the author appears on it. A useful list states its criteria and discloses its conflict. A list that ranks its author first without either is a sales page.

The same caution applies to this post. RAITHub is a software company in Dhaka, so it has an interest in how you choose. That is why the checklist below is written to be applied to RAITHub as strictly as to anyone else, and why there is a section of questions to ask RAITHub specifically.

What should you weigh when choosing a software company in Bangladesh?

Weigh evidence of delivery and quality above price and presentation. The weights below add up to 100; adjust them to your project, but decide them before the first sales call so a good pitch cannot move them.

CriterionWeightWhat to checkWhat makes it strong
QA process20Test types, CI gates, who tests, what blocks a releaseTests live in your repository and a failing test stops a merge
Who actually writes the code15Names, seniority and continuity of the people on your projectYou meet the engineers before signing, and the senior person stays involved
Verified reviews15Clutch or GoodFirms reviews with project size, date and reviewer roleRecent reviews for projects like yours, including some criticism
Case studies with numbers15Live URLs, scale, test counts, timelines, what went wrongMeasured facts you can check, not adjectives
Communication and time-zone overlap15Overlap hours, meeting cadence, written updates, demosA fixed daily overlap window and a weekly demo of working software
IP and NDA terms10IP assignment clause, NDA timing, account ownershipPresent assignment of IP to you, and repositories and hosting in your name
Contract model10Fixed scope, dedicated team, or time and materials; change control; notice periodThe model matches how certain your scope is, and exits are short
Red flagsVetoSee the red-flag list belowNone present

QA carries the most weight because it is the criterion most often skipped in offshore work and the one that decides whether the next release breaks the last one. The companion post on the hidden cost of cheap offshore development shows how missing tests turn a low rate into a higher total.

How does time-zone overlap work with a team in Bangladesh?

Bangladesh runs on UTC+6 all year, with no daylight saving time, so the gap to you changes when your own clocks change. Plan the overlap window in writing before the project starts.

  • UK: Dhaka is 5 hours ahead in British Summer Time and 6 hours ahead in winter. A UK morning overlaps with the Dhaka afternoon.
  • Central Europe: 4 hours ahead in summer, 5 in winter. Most of the European morning overlaps.
  • US East Coast: 10 hours ahead in summer, 11 in winter. Overlap is a Dhaka-evening window of one to two hours, so written handoffs matter more than meetings.
  • Australia (Sydney): Sydney is 4 hours ahead of Dhaka outside its daylight saving period and 5 hours during it.

Ask each firm which hours its engineers will actually be online for you, not which hours sales is available. For how Bangladesh compares with other regions, see nearshore vs offshore software development.

Which questions should you ask, and what does a good answer look like?

Ask the same 18 questions of every firm and write down the answers. A vague answer to a specific question is itself an answer.

#QuestionA good answer looks like
1Who will write the code on my project, and can I meet them?Named engineers with their experience, met before you sign
2Who reviews the architecture and the pull requests?A named senior engineer, with review as a required step before merge
3What happens if a key engineer leaves mid-project?A handover process, documentation kept current, and a replacement plan with a timeline
4Do you subcontract any work to freelancers or other firms?A clear yes or no, and if yes, who and under what NDA
5What tests will you write, and where will they live?Unit, integration and end-to-end tests in your repository, run in CI
6What stops a release?Specific gates: failing tests, type errors, a failed build on the deploy target
7How many automated tests does a comparable project of yours have?A number, from a real codebase, with a way to check it
8Can I see a code sample or a repository walkthrough?Yes: an open-source repo, a sanitised sample, or a screen-shared tour under NDA
9Which case study is closest to my project, and what went wrong on it?A specific project and an honest account of a problem and its fix
10Can I speak to two past clients?Yes, including one whose project had difficulties
11Who owns the IP, and when does ownership transfer? You do, through present assignment, not "on final payment"
12Whose name will the repository, hosting and domain accounts be in?Yours, from day one, with the firm added as a collaborator
13When do you sign an NDA?Before you share anything detailed about the product
14Which hours will your engineers overlap with mine?A fixed daily window, in both time zones, in writing
15What will I see every week?A demo of working software and a written changelog
16Which contract model do you recommend for this project, and why?A reasoned choice tied to how clear your scope is, not the model that suits their billing
17What happens when the scope changes?A written change-request process with the cost and time impact before work starts
18What happens if a fixed-price project overruns because of your mistake? The firm absorbs it, and says so in the contract

Questions 1 to 4 matter most in Bangladesh's market, where a small studio, a large firm and a freelancer network can present almost identical websites. The answers tell you which one you are talking to.

How do you verify what a software company in Bangladesh tells you?

Verify with sources the firm does not control: review platforms, code, references and paid work. Four checks cover most of the risk.

  1. Read verified reviews, not star ratings. Clutch says every review goes through a verification process that confirms the reviewer's identity and work history, and labels reviews it cannot verify as "Not Verified" (Clutch: how reviews are verified). GoodFirms also publishes client reviews. Filter for projects of your size and from the last two years, and read what reviewers say went wrong. A firm with no reviews is not automatically weak, but it has to prove itself another way.
  2. Look at code. Ask for a public repository, a sanitised sample, or a screen-shared walkthrough of a real codebase under NDA. Look for tests next to the code, a CI configuration, and commit messages that explain changes. A firm that cannot show any code at all is asking you to trust it blind.
  3. Call references yourself. Ask what was late, what broke after launch, and whether they would hire the firm again. Ask the firm for the reference, then check the person exists on LinkedIn.
  4. Run a paid trial task. One to two weeks, a real but contained piece of work, paid at the firm's normal rate. Judge the pull request, the tests, the questions they asked and how they reported progress. A trial costs little compared with a failed six-month engagement.

Two checks that sound strong but prove less: membership of BASIS, the national software industry association, shows a registered business, not delivery quality; and a certificate such as ISO 27001 proves a security management system, not good code. Both are useful for procurement; neither replaces the four checks above.

What are the red flags when hiring a software company in Bangladesh?

Any one of these is a reason to walk away or to demand it is fixed in writing before you sign.

  • A fixed price quoted before anyone has asked detailed questions about your scope.
  • IP that transfers only "on final payment", or accounts registered in the firm's name.
  • No tests in the proposal, or tests listed as an optional extra.
  • The senior person on the sales call disappears once the contract is signed.
  • Case studies with no live URLs, no numbers and no named problems.
  • Pressure to sign quickly, or a discount that expires in days.
  • Headline savings such as "save 70%" with no source for the figure.
  • Reluctance to put the overlap hours, the NDA or the change process in writing.

Which software company in Bangladesh is right for a startup?

For most startups, a firm whose size matches the project beats a firm with the longest client list. The right partner for a first product is usually small enough that senior engineers work on your code, and disciplined enough to write tests from the first week.

Your situationWhat to look forWhat to be careful of
First MVP, limited budgetA small senior team, fixed scope, tests from week oneFirms that staff juniors behind a senior salesperson
Funded startup scaling a productA dedicated team with continuity and a clear release processRotating engineers and no ownership of the architecture
Enterprise or regulated buyerCertifications, security reviews and bench depthSmall studios that cannot pass your procurement
You want engineers inside your own teamA staff augmentation provider or an employer of recordProject studios that do not offer staff augmentation

If budget is the deciding factor, the cost to hire developers in Bangladesh compares salary, freelancer and agency routes with sourced figures.

What questions should you ask RAITHub too?

The same 18, plus these. RAITHub's own answers are here so you can check them against the contract and the call.

  • Do you have third-party reviews? Not yet. RAITHub has no published Clutch or GoodFirms reviews today. What it offers instead are case studies with measured numbers on the work page.
  • Who writes and reviews the code? Rupak Amin, Founder & Lead Engineer, reviews the architecture on every engagement. RAITHub is a small, founder-led studio founded in 2024 in Dhaka.
  • How many tests do your platforms have? TheSkinProof, the founder's own marketplace venture built and run by RAITHub, has 750+ automated tests; Sundor Skin 530+; PropDesk 1,024; the RAITHub website 400+. The method is in how RAITHub tests software.
  • Are you certified? No. RAITHub is not SOC 2 or ISO certified. It follows aligned practices, described on the security page.
  • Who owns the IP? You do, through a present-assignment clause, and an NDA is standard before detailed discussion.
  • Which contract models do you offer? Fixed scope at a fixed price, or a dedicated monthly team. RAITHub does not offer staff augmentation.
  • What are your rates? RAITHub publishes none. You get a written estimate with its assumptions after a free 15-minute technical audit; see pricing.

When is RAITHub a good fit, and when is it not?

RAITHub fits startups and product teams that want a fixed-scope SaaS, MVP, backend or rescue build with tests gated in CI and a founder who reviews the architecture. The case for a Dhaka studio of this kind is set out on software development company in Bangladesh.

It is the wrong choice if your procurement needs SOC 2 or ISO certification, if you need a large team next month, if you want engineers placed inside your own team, if you need delivery in a language other than English, or if you are building a regulated fintech or health product without a compliance partner. In those cases a larger or more specialised firm will serve you better, and the checklist above will help you find it.

To test RAITHub against this checklist, book the free 15-minute technical audit on the contact page. You receive a written audit memo whether or not you go ahead.

Frequently asked questions

How do I choose a software company in Bangladesh?

Score each firm on weighted criteria (QA process, who writes the code, verified reviews, case studies with numbers, time-zone overlap, IP terms and contract model), reject any firm with a red flag, then verify with reviews, a code sample, reference calls and a paid trial task.

Which software company in Bangladesh is best for startups?

No single firm is right for every startup. Look for a team small enough that senior engineers work on your code, with tests from the first week, IP assigned to you and a fixed daily overlap window. Judge each firm on evidence rather than on a list it wrote about itself.

Are "top software companies in Bangladesh" lists reliable?

Many are written by a company that ranks itself first, without stating criteria. Treat a list as useful only if it discloses who wrote it, explains how firms were placed, and admits whether the author appears on it.

How can I verify a Bangladeshi software company's reviews?

Use platforms that verify reviewers, such as Clutch, which says a human editor checks every review and confirms the reviewer's link to the provider. Read recent reviews for projects of your size, then call references yourself.

Should I run a paid trial before hiring a software company?

Yes, when the engagement is large. A one-to-two-week paid task shows the quality of the code, the tests, the questions asked and the progress reporting, for a small fraction of the cost of a failed project.

What time-zone overlap can I expect with a team in Bangladesh?

Bangladesh is UTC+6 with no daylight saving. The UK and Europe get a morning overlap of several hours; the US East Coast gets a short Dhaka-evening window, so written handoffs matter more.

Does RAITHub have Clutch reviews?

Not yet. RAITHub has no published third-party reviews. It publishes case studies with measurable figures, such as test counts and live URLs, and offers a free written audit memo so you can judge its work before hiring.
