How Much Does QA Testing Cost? A 2026 Breakdown

QA testing costs depend on how you buy it. On 2026 market data, testers run from under $20 an hour offshore to $150 or more in North America; web app penetration tests cost $5,000 to $30,000; accessibility audits mostly $1,250 to $2,750; and an in-house QA hire costs roughly $150,000 a year all in. A one-off audit or a monthly plan is quoted per scope.

These are market figures from the sources cited below, not RAITHub prices. For a fixed quote on your own product, see how RAITHub would test this below.

How is QA testing priced?

Almost every QA cost falls into one of four shapes. Knowing which you are being quoted makes numbers comparable.

How you buy itHow it is pricedTypical market cost
Hourly or per-testerHours or testers per month$8 to $150+ an hour by region (see below)
One-off auditA fixed price from the number of journeys, pages or screens in scopeSecurity $5,000 to $30,000; accessibility $1,250 to $2,750
Monthly QA planA fixed monthly fee for an agreed scopeQuoted per scope and release pace
In-house hireSalary plus benefits, tools and managementRoughly $150,000 a year all in (US median)

The full buyer's guide to each model, and what moves the price, is in QAaaS pricing.

What do testers cost per hour in 2026?

Rates vary more by region and by manual versus automation skill than by anything else.

RegionManual QA, per hourAutomation QA, per hour
India and Southeast Asia$8 to $55$12 to $75
Latin America$20 to $95$30 to $130
Eastern Europe$25 to $110$35 to $150
Western Europe$60 to $160$85 to $210
North America$80 to $150+$110 to $200+

Source: QA Madness 2026 QA outsourcing rates, which notes automation rates run 20 to 50% above manual in every region. Freelance marketplaces sit lower: Upwork lists a median of $35 an hour for QA engineers (Upwork QA engineer rates) and $15 an hour for software QA testers (Upwork QA tester rates).

What do one-off QA, security and accessibility audits cost?

One-off audits are priced by scope: how many journeys, roles, pages or screens are tested, and how deep the testing goes.

  • Web application security testing. A 2026 pricing guide puts web application penetration tests at $5,000 to $30,000, with multi-tenant SaaS, APIs, SSO, admin roles and payment flows pushing the price up (Blaze Information Security). Application security testing against OWASP guidance finds real weaknesses, but only an accredited firm can issue the CREST- or PCI-recognised report some contracts require.
  • Accessibility audits. One accessibility firm's published pricing puts most audits at $1,250 to $2,750, at $100 to $250 per primary page or screen and $25 to $100 for lighter ones, on a representative sample (Accessible.org pricing). An audit tells you what fails WCAG 2.2 and how to fix it; it does not certify legal compliance.
  • Pre-launch QA passes. Priced like a short fixed project: the number of critical journeys, browsers and devices sets the effort. The pre-launch QA checklist outlines what such a pass should cover.

What does an in-house QA hire really cost?

More than the salary. In the United States, the median wage for software quality assurance analysts and testers was $104,300 in May 2025 (US Bureau of Labor Statistics). Wages are only part of the bill: in June 2026, wages and salaries were 68.5% of total compensation costs for full-time private-industry workers, with benefits the remaining 31.5% (BLS Employer Costs for Employee Compensation). Applying that to the median wage gives roughly $150,000 a year for one tester, before recruiting, tools, devices and management time. That is an estimate from national averages, not a quote.

And one person rarely covers manual, automation, mobile, security and accessibility to the same depth, so each gap is either another hire or a risk you accept. The full comparison is in in-house QA vs outsourced QA vs QAaaS.

What drives the price of a QA quote?

Eight factors decide where a quote lands. If two quotes differ widely, one of these is usually why.

  1. Scope of journeys and roles. Five roles across ten journeys is fifty paths to test, not fifteen.
  2. Platforms and devices. Each extra platform and OS version widens the test matrix.
  3. Test types. Manual regression is the base; security, accessibility, performance and API testing each add specialist time.
  4. Release frequency. Weekly releases need regression every week, which is why frequent releasers benefit most from automation.
  5. State of existing tests. A flaky suite must be repaired or deleted before it can be trusted; see how to fix flaky end-to-end tests.
  6. Environments and test data. Without a stable staging environment and seed data, testers lose hours waiting.
  7. Evidence requirements. Enterprise and regulated buyers may want traceable records for every release.
  8. Tools and device clouds. Cloud browser and device testing starts at $29 to $39 a month per user, and $150 a month for a five-user team plan (BrowserStack pricing). Ask whether the quote includes them.

Why RAITHub, and what it does not change about cost

  • A fixed written quote. After a free 15-minute audit, you get a written scope and price, so you know the cost before work starts.
  • All three ways to buy. A monthly plan, a fixed-price one-off audit, or a dedicated team RAITHub manages and bills monthly; see QA as a Service.
  • Counted suites. PropDesk runs 1,024 automated tests and Sundor Skin runs 530+. TheSkinProof, the founder's own venture, runs 750+.
  • What it does not change: RAITHub's security testing is application-level, not a certified pentest, and its accessibility audits do not certify legal compliance, so a buyer who needs those still pays an accredited firm for them.

RAITHub publishes no rates and has no standalone QA case study yet beyond those test counts, so judge the cost on the written quote after a free audit.

How RAITHub would test this

  • Scope: the journeys and roles that matter, the platforms and devices, and the test types, which together set the price.
  • Model: a monthly plan, a one-off audit or a dedicated team, chosen with you on the audit call.
  • Delivery: bug reports with steps and evidence in your tracker, a test plan, automated tests gated in your CI, and a regular report.
  • Limits in writing: security testing is application-level, not a certified pentest; accessibility audits do not certify legal compliance.

Timeline: a one-off audit has fixed dates before it starts; plans and dedicated teams run monthly. You receive: the test strategy, reports, tests and CI configuration, a handover document, full IP and an NDA. Next step: a free 15-minute audit, then a written fixed quote.

Frequently asked questions

How much does QA testing cost?

It depends on how you buy it. Testers run from under $20 an hour offshore to $150 or more in North America; web app pentests cost $5,000 to $30,000; accessibility audits mostly $1,250 to $2,750; and an in-house hire is roughly $150,000 a year all in.

How much does a one-off QA audit cost?

It is priced by scope, the number of journeys, roles, pages or screens tested. A security pentest runs $5,000 to $30,000 and an accessibility audit mostly $1,250 to $2,750. A pre-launch functional pass is quoted like a short fixed project.

Is outsourcing QA cheaper than hiring?

Usually per hour, yes, especially offshore. But compare total cost: an in-house tester at a $104,300 median wage costs roughly $150,000 all in, while outsourcing lets you pay only for the testing you use. Count your own management time either way.

Why do automation testers cost more than manual testers?

Automation needs programming skill, so rates run 20 to 50% higher in every region. The work pays back on repeated releases, because an automated check costs almost nothing to run again.

What makes one QA quote higher than another?

Scope of journeys and roles, platforms and devices, the mix of test types, release frequency, the state of existing tests, environments and data, evidence requirements, and whether tools and device clouds are included. Any of these can explain a wide gap.

Does RAITHub publish QA prices?

No. RAITHub gives a written fixed quote after a free 15-minute audit, based on your scope, platforms and release pace, rather than a public rate card.
